We wanted to first go the Death Valley, but it was rainy there (the root cause for all the flowers), so we kept on going, ending up once again at Anza Borrego Desert State Park, located next to the Salton Sea in deepest southern California. The flowers were fabulous, and we managed to get in a couple of hikes and take a lot of pictures. (And I managed to leave my glasses on top of the car again, an all too common occurrence.)
