On our first day we took a train and cable car up to Mannlichen, and walked a few miles over to Kleine Scheidegg, at the foot of the Eiger.  The weather was beautiful and comfortable, probably with smaller crowd than in the summer, and the hiking pleasant, since it was always downhill.
