Patti and I spent the next few days cruising around the area, visiting the small picturesque hilltop towns, hiking through the fields, and eating way too much. The food was pretty inexpensive, particularly compared with Switzerland. On one day we drove over to nearby Pienza, did a short walking tour of the town, and then followed a guidebook hike for a few miles down into the fields around the town. One night Sara and John treated all of us to a fabulous dinner at a nearby restaurant (well, it was nearby as the carrion crow flies: our convoy of four sub-compact cars spent spent many kilometers scooting around lost through the darkened countryside, both coming and going.  Have you ever seen the movie "The Italian Job"?)
