After the necessary transfusions, we kept on heading south, all the way out to Key West for the start of the highlight of the trip. It was a birding voyage out to Dry Tortugas National Park, leaving Key West in the middle of the night, ostensibly sleeping until arrival at Fort Jefferson in the morning. There were 30 or 40 bird watchers on the eighty foot boat, many of whom spent the night hanging over the rail. But we had a good look at the frigatebirds soaring over the fort in the morning, and the clouds of Sooty Terns and Brown Noddies nearby.
