The next day's hike would be the complete Cinque Terre, from Monterosso to Vernazza to Corniglia to Manarole to Riomaggiore, and the weather obliged with a beautiful day. The five towns are all on the coast above the Mediterranean, just barely perching on the rocks. The train line, which spends most of the way in tunnels between the towns, makes the towns easily accessible, and there were plenty of people. But the trail wasn't very crowded, with a only few tourists like us, and local people walking to their homes in the hills. To cap the day off, the cook at our hotel in Monterosso gave us an excellent Italian cooking lesson in the kitchen.
