October 2003: New Hampshire
Earlier in the year Patti found a great deal on tickets on the web, so it's off to New Hampshire and Connecticut for some sightseeing and family visiting. We flew via Southwest into Manchester, a new route for us, and it was quite nice, if a bit circuitous (the return flight was by way of Phoenix). We tried to time the trip so that we'd be up in Randolph for the best colors, around October 10, and it worked out great that way. When we arrived on the 2nd, the colors were pretty blah, and it was cold and rainy. It snowed on the peaks, and even a little in Randolph, and the news from the top of Mt. Washington was 80 mph gusts at 20°, a bit to nippy for hiking up there.
