September 2023: Olympic Peninsula
Patti and I left an accomodating Charlie at Roscoe's Ranch and headed out for a three day, two night trip around the Olympic Peninsula. After taking the ferry across Puget Sound, our first stop was at Washington's far northwest tip, Cape Flattery. Some exhausted hikers coming up the trail was cause for worry, but the trip back up was pretty easy. And the views at the cape were exemplary. Next we headed down the coast for a night's stay, with excellent meal, at Lake Quinault Lodge. In the morning some short walks to the world's larget sitka spruce and through the rain forest. Then down the coast for a little Bar-tailed Godwit twitching at Westport (dipped) and on to Long Beach for the night. Cape Disappontment State Park at the mouth of the Columbia was our final stop, and then home to pick up a happy Charlie.
