Keizersgracht and Leliegracht, Amsterdam.  My sister Andra recommended any hotel within the canal ring, and she's right.  If you're used to walking, then from your hotel you can walk along charming canals and 17th century buildings to the Rijks and Van Gogh museums, the Ann Frank House, or wear out your welcome stalking people with their dogs and bikes for your photos.  Once your feet have had enough, the tram is easy.  I found that once I watched for the canal street names, then there was little chance of getting lost.  Hotel rates skyrocket when the Keukenhof Garden Show is on so I'd book at least six months ahead to find decent rates.  Or, go at a different time of year.  Next time, when Tom is along, we'll have to make it to Bruges and Belgium.
