Summer 2003: Arkansas and Cross Country
I managed to squeeze in a quick drive across the country, leaving Patti back at Dog's Breath Acres to tend the critters and grandchild. Allison's car finally gave it up in July, and Patti's parents' Ford Taurus was sitting back in Arkansas, unwanted, so it seemed a good match. I hopped a plane back there, arriving at the nearly empty home in Rogers around midnight, and as quietly as I could, drove the car away. I motored slowly back to the Northwest, taking about 10 days. Stopped for a couple of nights at cousin Betty and Dave Snyder's in Boulder for a fun visit and family reminiscence. Did a lot of sightseeing and camping, with stops at Pawnee National Grasslands in Colorado, Rocky Mountain National Park (where at one point along the road I stopped at a turnout, walked a few hundred yards, and in so doing managed to climb the highest peak I've ever been up), and the Ruby Mountains of Nevada (which is actually a quite spectacular spot). We, the car and me, made it back fine and Allison loves her new wheels. Here are a few pictures from the trip.
