This is my campsite at Diamondfield Jack in the Sawtooth National Forest in the South Hills.  The Cassia Crossbills pry open the pinecones of these jack pines for their food, almost exclusively.  I had been listening to recordings of their calls, which are a bit different than the other Red Crossbills, and thought I heard one just as I stepped out of the car.  Shortly after I saw one in a treetop... tick.  On the other hand, the campground wasn't all that exciting, but fortunately empty... on weekends I gather it's over-run by off-roaders.
