Kate tossing Ma's ashes over the edge. She didn't make the mistake of not "spitting to leeward"; but, due to the swirling winds, a certain amount of Ma ended up in Kate's hair. Ger read a poem:

Times we need the strength of stone
we walk in mountains that can take
the weight of everything we own
and hold us so we will not break.
So many times walking, walking on,
walking the peace back into your heart,
you found things that had never gone,
every trail a new, renewing start.
And today we walk and place you back
into the wind's huge, kind, waiting hands--
part of this mountain again at last,
part of that strength that helps us stand.
