The evening of our last night there, we got a cell phone call from Patti's sister, who was visiting their mother, Burr, in Arkansas. Burr had had a stroke and was unresponsive. There wasn't much that could be done except put her in hospice care and wait. Patti and I drove over to our next destination, the Big Sur coast, undecided what to do. Patti had tickets to go back to Arkansas in about 10 days, but there was no way to change them without spending a bunch. We finally decided to drive back, across California, Nevada, Utah, corners of Colorado and New Mexico, then Oklahoma, to Arkansas.
